Bread & Water
Friends of Dorothy’s,
We would like to invite all of you to our Lenten series: Bread & Water. The name comes from the ancient Lenten tradition of the Church of fasting by only eating bread and water. The bread being a symbol of nourishment and water being refreshment. Beginning March 2nd through April 13th we will be offering a Tuesday/Saturday series that will delve into St. Paul’s Letter to the Romans.
The sessions will be held Saturdays at 11:00 am (March 2-April 13) OR Tuesdays at 1:00 pm (March 5-April 16). Each of these events build on each other in certain ways and yet what we will be doing is accessible to anyone. To quote St. Jerome, “The Scriptures are shallow enough for a babe to come and drink without fear of drowning and deep enough for a theologians to swim in without ever touching the bottom." The Tuesday and Saturday meetings are independent of each other, meaning that it is designed so that you attend one or the other. The different days are just to allow more people the opportunity to participate. Everyone is welcome. You don’t need a bible and you can attend just 1 or all of the sessions.
“Indeed, only with difficulty does one die for a just person, though perhaps for a good person one might even find courage to die. But God proves his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.” Rom. 5:7-8.
